  6.     If you're writer living in the Ohio Valley or Tri-State area
  7. (WV, OH, PA), there's an exciting new magazine just for you! It's
  8. called the
  9.  
  10.                   THE VALLEY VOICE
  11.  
  12.     The Valley Voice will feature contests, essays and articles on
  13. writing, short stories, and poems by OHIO VALLEY and TRI-STATE
  14. writers.  The magazine will be published every two months.  We are
  15. in the process of reviewing manuscripts for our first issue, planned
  16. for March 1st, 1995.

  18. Magazine Format:
  19.  
  20.     5 1/2" x 8 1/2"; 48-64 pages; 70 lb. bond linen cover; 60 lb. bond
  21. stock Published bi-monthly (every two months).  Projected circulation
  22. (first year): 500.
  23.  
  24. Seeking:
  25.  
  26. *  QUALITY SHORT FICTION.  Open to all genres, all styles.  Stories
  27.    may be from 1000 to 8000 words long, but 2000-4000 words is
  28.    preferred.  Will accept 4-6 short stories per issue.
  29. *  ESSAYS.  All essays should be less than 800 words, and must be
  30.    intimately related to writing.  Will accept 1-2 essays per issue.
  31. *  ARTICLES.  All writing articles should be from 1000 to 2000
  32.    words.  As with essays, the subject matter must be related to
  33.    writing.  Will accept 2-4 articles per issue.
  34. *  POEMS.  Free style or verse.  Submit no more than 5 poems at a
  35.    time for consideration. Needs 2-4 poems per issue.

  37. Submission Requirements:

  39. *  On the first page, in the upper left hand corner, include your
  40.    name, address, telephone number, and social security number.  In
  41.    the upper right hand corner, indicate the approximate word count,
  42.    and the rights you are offering (FIRST RIGHTS, SECOND REPRINT
  43.    RIGHTS, etc.)
  44. *  Manuscript must be neatly typed, error-checked, double-spaced
  45.    with a 1-inch margin on all sides.
  46. *  If you want your manuscript returned, please be sure to include a
  47.    large enough SASE containing sufficient return postage.
  48.    Otherwise, mark your manuscript "Editor's Copy" or "Disposable".
  49. *  Include cover letter with author's bio.

  51. Payment:
  52.  
  53. *  Payment rate is 1/2 to 1 cent per word for fiction and
  54.    non-fiction, 25 cents per line for poetry.  Maximum payment:
  55.    $40.00.
  56. *  1 contributor's copy  (3.25 per copy for extras).
